About Dawn Duran

Dawn is a physical therapist by training and a wife and mother by vocation. She has been home educating her sons, currently in 9th and 12th grades, using the Charlotte Mason philosophy “since the beginning.” She feels blessed to have encountered Charlotte Mason when her children were toddlers, and has immersed herself in Mason’s wisdom ever since.

For several years Dawn enjoyed leading local students in the study of Plutarch and Shakespeare as part of her Friday Feast group, and this year is excited to begin a new venture–the Junto Club–which will be a gathering of high school students that engages in reading, narration, and discussion of great works together. She is the creator of Swedish Drill Revisited and author of the book A Reasoned Patriotism: Critical Thinking and Civic Duty in an Age of Polarization. She writes for The Discerning Home Educator and co-hosts The New Mason Jar podcast with Cindy Rollins.

About Jami Marstall

Jami has been homeschooling with Charlotte Mason’s principles, primarily following AmblesideOnline, for the past 18 years. She has graduated three of her four children from the family homeschool and her youngest is in high school. Her husband John has been an integral part of their family educational endeavors as a math, philosophy, and theology tutor. Jami particularly loves to read about and discuss educational history and philosophy. She always dreamed of being a professional student and homeschooling continues to be the perfect career to fulfill that ambition. Jami joined us on The New Mason Jar for episode 22 about Charlotte Mason through High School & episode 78 starting our Morning Time for Moms series. Listen in!!

About Kay Pelham

Kay Pelham was born and raised in northern Illinois, right beside the Mississippi River. She went to college in three southern states, ending with a Masters Degree in Music. Her mid-20s to mid-30s were spent in New York. Returning south, she met the man she would marry. Kay was 40 at her marriage, 41 at the birth of her son, and 44 at the birth of her daughter. Sadly, her daughter would die at 3 weeks. It was during her pregnancy with her daughter Grace that Kay discovered Wendi Capehart, Charlotte Mason and AmblesideOnline. All three remained alongside Kay as wise counselors as she homeschooled her son James until his graduation in 2021. Because she can’t get enough Charlotte, she continues to study, write about, and teach the philosophy. Kay also has over 30 private piano students, and teaches music and literature classes out of her home in Montana.

About Jeannette Tulis

Jeannette was first introduced to the ideas of Charlotte Mason when her then fiancé (now her husband) gave her a copy of For The Children’s Sake and said, “This is how I would like us to educate our children!” 34 years later, Jeannette looks over a rich life of learning alongside their four children, ages 22 to 33: an artist in residence in a Belgian castle, an internet security consultant, a mechanic/welder, and a career yet to be determined. As each child left home, Jeannette may or may not have turned their bedroom into an annex for her ever growing lending library Green Door Children’s Heritage Library. Jeannette’s education continues today as she tutors privately and runs a two day a week kindergarten enrichment program called Kinder Garden. Jeannette delights in: collecting/hoarding/consuming/lending/reading aloud the best living books, in naming what is found in nature, creating with handicrafts, obsessing over artists, rendering in paint objects in nature, helping to run a local CM support group, and being part of far too many book clubs.  She considers it a privilege whenever she has the opportunity to share her gleanings from this life of living ideas that is a Charlotte Mason education.
